The Clear Choice Builders Headquarters is situated on the north-eastern outskirts of Pretoria on the slopes of the Bronberge mountains. The brief for the project was to create a pair of office buildings that exude excellence – both in their architectural ingenuity and the distinctive quality in which they are built. After all, the buildings would be a showcase of the client’s wealth of experience and accomplishments in the built environment industry.
The executive building is the second of the development and accommodates the visitor’s reception area and the firm’s executive functions – executive office suite, board room, auditorium, staff gym and overnight suite for guests. The building is the eccentric one in the couple; organic, innovative and generous. The ground floor of the building hovers above the dam below and is connected to the water through a large central atrium. The building is enveloped in a gold skin – a shell – that is occasionally perforated to allow view and ventilation. A triple-volume glazed slit splits the building down the middle and delineates the circulation within the building and its connections across the site.
